Q: Hey Cam, what are those funny looking black things sitting on the back counter at BOOM? They look like you’re going to put flowers in them… is that what they’re for?? -Angie
[line_break]Insert Your Text Here[/line_break]
Thanks for the question Angie, and no they are not for putting flowers in. They are actually foam rollers, and yes we will be using them very, very soon at BOOM.

We’re going to be incorporating foam rolling (finally!) into our mobility warm up with the clients at BOOM BodyShaping. We already do a dynamic mobility type warm up, but we will be incorporating a few simple foam rolling exercises before we get into our dynamic warm up.

Foam rolling is one of the most important things you can do to build a better, healthier body and some experts even say that the increased recovery time and increased range of motion provided by regular foam rolling could actually lead to higher caloric burn during your workouts!
[line_break]Insert Your Text Here[/line_break]
But what is it actually doing?
[line_break]Insert Your Text Here[/line_break]
Well basically it’s like self massage and does wonders for increasing tissue health in your muscles and tendons. You take one of these foam rollers and roll over the large muscle groups such as upper back, glutes, hamstrings, quadriceps, I.T. band, hip flexors and along the adductor muscles in the inner thigh. You can do this for anywhere from 30 seconds to a couple minutes per muscle group depending on how much time you have and how much pain your in while your doing it. (TIP: if you’re in pain doing it, that usually means you need to do more of it… so suck it up and keep rolling
)

This is also a great recovery strategy because it also helps to release any built up lactic acid or hydrogen build up in the muscles causing stiffness. This means you won’t be as sore the next day and can continue to push harder in your workouts.

Foam rolling is something everyone should be doing everyday. It’s easy to do, the benefits are numerous and the way you’re body will feel after incorporating it regularly is amazing.

Here’s a video I filmed last night with some basic foam rolling exercises we will be using at BOOM BodyShaping very soon:

Alright, I’m off to do some program design for our BOOM clients and then get a strength training sesh in for myself. Then tonight I’ll be enjoying the sounds of Michael Jackson as performed by the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra thanks to a client hook up for killer seats
